Volunteers are so vital to the work that we do every single day at ElderServe. Without their time and energy, we couldn’t support over 2,000 older adults in our community every year. We wanted to look back on the impact they helped make possible in 2018.
Active Choices: This was the first year volunteers started helping to make monthly follow-up calls in the program, offering them support and encouragement as they work on their exercise goals.
Friendly Visitor: Volunteers spent over 1,250 hours visiting and spending quality time with their participants. We loved hearing how pairs spent their time together – baking for the holidays, walking at the park, going out to lunch, celebrating birthdays, and talking and sharing stories.
Senior Companions: The Senior Companion volunteers spent over 60,000 hours helping to take clients to appointments or shopping, helping to prepare meals, join in activities such as arts, crafts and games, and providing caregivers with a break. Their commitment helps many older adults live independently in their own homes.
TeleCare: A daily phone call can really brighten someone’s day! Volunteers spent over 94,000 minutes talking with participants in the program. This regular personal connection is so important as older adults are especially vulnerable to social isolation.
All of us at ElderServe are so thankful for the support of our volunteers. These programs wouldn’t be possible without their passion for helping others. Together we will continue to empower older adults in our community.
