See the Wonderful Old Women Exhibit at Pyro Gallery.

ElderServe invites the community to attend a reception celebrating Ann Stewart Anderson’s WOWs (Wonderful Old Women) exhibit at Pyro Gallery. Ann Stewart’s collection of cut paper mosaics using pages from old art periodicals gives us unsentimental images of older women who use their hats and adornment to present themselves honestly and confidently.The reception is Wednesday, February 27, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Pyro Gallery, 909 East Market Street. You’re Invited to an Open House honoring Harriette Friedlander!

After 18 years of dedication to helping Louisville’s seniors, Harriette Friedlander is retiring. Please join us as we celebrate Harriette’s accomplishments and thank her for her devoted service. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. We will be honoring her March 28 at The Senior Center at Oak and Acorn, 631 S. 28th Street at Magazine. There will be a presentation from the from the stage at 5:30 pm, but feel free to drop by and wish her well at any time between 4:00 to 6:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

Once again it’s time to put on your running shoes and kick up some dust. Join Team ElderServe and run in the Derby Festival miniMarathon on April 27 to raise funds to help our community’s elderly with programs such as Crime Victim Services, Senior Companions, Home Care, Adult Day Care Services and Telecare.

Champion for the Aging Luncheon is June 14 at the Galt House.

We would like to invite you and your organization to support our mission with sponsorship of our 2013 Champion for the Aging Awards Luncheon on June 14. The year’s luncheon will honor ElderServe’s dedicated CEO, Harriette Friedlander, who is retiring after 18 years of service to the organization. ElderServe wishes you the best for this holiday season. Whether you have a parent or other close relative or it’s someone next door, everyone has an older adult in their lives somehow. Don’t forget them over the holiday season. Many of our elders don’t have loved ones nearby and can’t travel to be with them, so they are all alone. So what’s one more place setting on the table?

Seniors may not be up to shopping at the mall for six hours at a time but they still need and deserve our time and attention. Time—that’s the hot commodity these days; it seems to be in very short supply, but time is often the best gift you can give. Time to listen to their stories; time to bake cookies together or time to just watch a favorite old movie can be very rewarding. Take the time to share a plate of cookies with a neighbor or shovel their walkway if it’s needed. It’s the right thing to do.

TeleCare is for those who want to stay in touch! TeleCare volunteers call more than 400 people each day – not only to connect with them for safety purposes, but also to provide them with helpful information about community resources.
